Canggu for Three Months: Budgeting Beyond Accommodation

Test an IDR 200,000 daily Canggu budget for food and routine spending, and keep gym fees, housing, insurance and longer-term costs visible.

A daily Canggu budget is meaningful only when you state what it excludes. IDR 200,000 per day produces IDR 6 million over thirty days, but that does not establish the full cost of living if accommodation, insurance and gym membership are paid elsewhere.

The Reddit question behind this article concerned routine spending during a three-month stay rather than a short holiday with unrestricted spending. That change in behaviour matters as much as the length of the trip.

Test the daily allowance

The following is an allocation exercise, not a price list.

Daily categoryIDR allocation
Meals and ingredients120,000
Drinks and snacks25,000
Local transport25,000
Household spending allowance15,000
Remaining flexibility15,000
Daily total200,000

Over ninety days this amounts to IDR 18 million. Housing and all separately billed commitments must be added. If you intend the entire allowance for food only, your total budget has a different scope.

Price your actual gym and kitchen routine

A premium fitness club and an ordinary gym are different services. Ask for the price covering the full intended membership period, any joining fee and the facilities included. Do not divide an annual promotion by twelve if you only qualify for a short-term membership.

If you want to cook, check kitchen access before booking. A room without a suitable kitchen changes the food plan. Include basics such as cookware or condiments only if they are not provided, and spread startup purchases over the stay.

Keep holiday spending separate

Beach clubs, excursions and occasional expensive dinners should have their own allowance. A daily routine can look controlled while several large outings push the total above budget. Set the frequency before choosing the amount.

Frequently asked questions

Is IDR 200,000 a day enough in Canggu?

It may cover a carefully defined daily basket, but not every expense. The answer depends on whether food, transport, gym and other costs sit inside or outside the allowance.

Does three months cost exactly ninety daily budgets?

Only for the categories included in the daily figure. Add accommodation, insurance, administration, startup purchases and other recurring commitments separately.

Should I buy an annual gym membership to save money?

Only compare offers you can actually use. A lower monthly equivalent can still mean a larger total payment and poor value if you leave after three months or cannot cancel.
