Expert take — Cost of Asia editorial team If you call 115 after a road accident in Ho Chi Minh City, the call taker may not speak English, and the public ambulance may take you to Cho Ray Hospital in District 5 rather than an international hospital. Family Medical Practice runs a 24-hour private ambulance on ∗9999 with English-speaking dispatchers, though it will take you wherever is best equipped, not automatically to its own clinic. Save both numbers and your insurer's assistance line in your phone now.

Ho Chi Minh City has several international hospitals that accept foreign insurance, plus 24-hour international clinics in the districts where most expats live. Your best choice depends on where you live, since crossing the city at rush hour takes time, and on whether you need a full hospital or a clinic that can stabilize you and refer you on.

A note on names: Vietnam's 2025 administrative reform merged and renamed many districts and wards. We use the names people still search, such as District 2 / Thao Dien and District 7 / Phu My Hung, but official addresses may now differ.

We don't rank hospitals on medical outcomes. Each pick is labeled by the profile it suits best.

How we chose

  • JCI accreditation, confirmed on the hospital's own website where possible.
  • International patient support and acceptance of foreign insurance.
  • 24-hour emergency access.
  • Location relative to expat districts (1, 2, 3, 7 and Binh Thanh).

Checked on 31 October 2026.

1. FV Hospital — best for full-service care in District 7

FV Hospital (Franco-Vietnamese Hospital) is at 6 Nguyen Luong Bang, Tan Phu ward, District 7. It first gained JCI accreditation in 2016, and the hospital says it has been accredited four times in a row through 2025. A 2021 hospital article gave it 230 inpatient beds, and Luma describes more than 30 specialties.

It suits families and long-term residents in Phu My Hung and southern districts. FV says many international insurers accept it and publishes a list of direct billing partners. Emergency line: (028) 35 11 35 00.

2. Vinmec Central Park — best for a central location

Vinmec Central Park International Hospital is at 208 Nguyen Huu Canh, Binh Thanh District. Part of the Vingroup-backed Vinmec system, it opened in December 2015 and gained JCI accreditation 15 months later, according to Vinmec. It offers 16 specialties with a focus on cardiology, and its equipment includes a 640-slice CT scanner and a 3 Tesla MRI.

It suits residents of Binh Thanh, District 1 and those crossing from Thao Dien. Hotline: +84 28 3622 1166.

3. American International Hospital — best for District 2 / Thao Dien

AIH is at 199 Nguyen Hoang, An Phu ward, in the area formerly called District 2 (later Thu Duc City). Housing SGN reports it opened in October 2018 with 120 inpatient beds. The hospital announced its JCI accreditation after its first assessment.

It suits expat families in Thao Dien and An Phu who want a full hospital without crossing the river. Phone: +84 28 3910 9999.

4. Family Medical Practice — best for 24-hour clinic care

Family Medical Practice (FMP) runs 24/7 clinics at 34 Le Duan, District 1, and 95 Thao Dien Street, District 2, plus a medical center in District 7, according to Luma Health. FMP is a clinic network, not a hospital. Use it for urgent care, stabilization and referrals.

Its private ambulance (∗9999) has English-speaking dispatchers 24 hours a day, which matters in a city where the public 115 line may not.

5. Raffles Medical — best for premium outpatient care

Raffles Medical's Ho Chi Minh City clinic, part of Singapore's Raffles Medical Group, is at 285B Dien Bien Phu, District 3. Luma describes it as focused on premium outpatient and corporate health with English-speaking doctors.

It suits expats who want a regular family doctor and check-ups. For admission, you would be referred to a hospital.

What to check before you decide

  • Direct billing: confirm your insurer has a direct billing agreement with the hospital you would use, for both outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Payment at the desk: without direct billing, expect to pay before discharge and claim later. Keep itemized receipts.
  • Travel time: test the route at rush hour, especially across the Saigon River.
  • Emergency numbers: save 115, ∗9999 and 113 (police, required after road accidents).
  • Evacuation cover: for complex cases, some expats are treated in Bangkok or Singapore. Check your policy covers medical evacuation.

FAQ

Which international hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are JCI-accredited?

FV Hospital, Vinmec Central Park and American International Hospital all state on their own websites that they hold JCI accreditation. Check the specific hospital in JCI's online directory before relying on any list.

What number do I call for an ambulance in Ho Chi Minh City?

115 is the public ambulance, but call takers may not speak English. Family Medical Practice's private ambulance is ∗9999, with English-speaking dispatch 24 hours a day.

Do I need insurance for international hospitals?

Strongly advised. International hospitals generally accept major foreign insurance plans, and care is not cheap if you pay yourself. Confirm coverage before treatment.
