Expert take — Cost of Asia editorial team Since 1 July 2025, Malaysia has charged 8% service tax on renting commercial space when the provider's turnover is above the registration threshold, so two KL coworking quotes can differ by 8% before you compare a single desk. Whether the tax applies to a hot-desk membership depends on how the operator classifies its service. Ask every space for a written quote that states whether SST is included.

Most of Kuala Lumpur's coworking brands run several sites across the Klang Valley. Monthly hot desks at the well-known brands cluster around RM400, according to 2025–2026 guides.

The real decision is transit. KL traffic can turn a short distance into a long drive, so a space linked to an LRT, MRT or KL Sentral can matter more than the fit-out. Whether you live in Mont Kiara, Bangsar or KLCC should guide your choice.

How we chose

  • Transit: a link or short walk to rail.
  • Network size: whether one membership covers several sites.
  • Published prices, dated and attributed.
  • Location relative to the main expat areas.

We could not run on-site speed tests, and published prices may be out of date. Checked on 1 November 2026.

1. Common Ground KLCC — best for KLCC with covered transit

Common Ground's flagship opened in July 2025 in Menara Darussalam, on the same grounds as the Grand Hyatt. EdgeProp reported 15,000 sq ft and covered walkways to the KLCC LRT and Pavilion MRT stations, which helps in a downpour. It was the brand's 16th Malaysian location. Other sites include Bangsar South, KL Sentral and Mont Kiara. Employment Hero listed a RM50 day pass and hot desks from RM499 a month, while Malaysia4U's 2026 guide puts hot desks around RM399. Ask for the current rate. Common Ground has also run free day-pass campaigns, most recently until 30 April 2026.

2. WORQ — best for rail commuters

WORQ is a homegrown operator. Malaysia4U says its roughly nine KL and Petaling Jaya sites each sit on an LRT or MRT line, including Menara 1 Sentrum at KL Sentral. Employment Hero listed a RM40 day pass and hot desks from RM400 a month. That's useful if you live along a rail line and want to choose the nearest site each day.

3. Colony — best for Mont Kiara and Eco City residents

Colony runs spaces at KLCC, KL Eco City and The MET in Mont Kiara, according to Malaysia4U. Employment Hero listed day passes from RM60, hot desks from RM410 and reserved desks from RM688 a month.

4. Komune — best for Bangsar South residents

Komune has two sites in Bangsar South and one at The Vertical. Employment Hero listed a RM35 day pass and hot desks from RM490 a month. Bangsar South has its own LRT access, which makes it workable even if you don't live next door.

5. Co-labs — best for a low day rate in KLCC

Co-labs is in Naza Tower at Platinum Park, Persiaran KLCC. Employment Hero listed a RM39 day pass and flexi desks from RM699 a month. The day rate makes it a cheap way to work in KLCC occasionally; for monthly use, compare it with Common Ground.

6. Sandbox — best for the lowest cost

Sandbox at Jalan Radin Bagus 3, Sri Petaling, had the lowest published day rate in Employment Hero's list at RM28, with hot desks from RM380. Its small rooms offer 24-hour access. It suits people living in the south of the city rather than the center.

What to check before you decide

  • SST on the quote: ask whether the 8% service tax is included.
  • Speed test on Wi-Fi and the backup connection during the afternoon.
  • Hours: many KL spaces run 9:00–18:00 by default, with 24/7 access only on higher tiers.
  • Covered walkways: check the route from your station in an afternoon thunderstorm.
  • Multi-site access: confirm which other locations your plan includes.
