Expert take — Cost of Asia editorial team The international clinic in Tay Ho, Raffles Medical at 51 Xuan Dieu, is not a night-time emergency option: Raffles' December 2025 clinic list gives weekday and Saturday-morning hours, by appointment. Older embassy lists still show the same address as International SOS with a 24-hour line, so many newcomers assume otherwise. If you live by West Lake, save Family Medical Practice's 24/7 ambulance line (∗1212) and learn the route to a 24-hour emergency department before you need it.

Hanoi has a small group of private hospitals and international clinics where foreigners can be treated in English and often bill their insurer. This guide tells residents where to go for a check-up, a 2 a.m. emergency or an admission.

The trade-off is hospital against clinic: hospitals can admit and operate, while clinics are easier for routine care but refer serious cases on. Vietnam's 2025 reform renamed many districts and wards, so we use the names people still search, with new ward names where the provider gives them.

We don't rank medical quality; each pick is labeled by the need it suits.

How we chose

  • Accreditation (JCI or ISO), as stated by the provider.
  • 24-hour emergency access and ambulance service.
  • English-language service, from the UK government's facilities list.
  • Location relative to where foreigners live (Tay Ho, Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem).

Checked on 4 November 2026. Embassy lists are not endorsements, and some are old.

1. Vinmec Times City — best for full-service hospital care

Vinmec Times City International Hospital is at 458 Minh Khai, now in Vinh Tuy ward (formerly Hai Ba Trung district). Vinmec says it was the first general hospital in Vietnam to receive JCI accreditation, and the first hospital in its chain to open. Departments include emergency, intensive care, oncology with radiotherapy, transplantation and IVF.

Main line: 024 3974 3556. A November 2025 guide gives an emergency line of (+84 24) 3974 4333. It's a long ride from Tay Ho at rush hour.

2. Hanoi French Hospital — best for a central location and French speakers

Hanoi French Hospital opened in 1997 as the first international hospital in Hanoi and northern Vietnam. It's at 1 Phuong Mai in Dong Da. The hospital cites ISO 9001 certification rather than JCI. It covers emergency care, maternity, pediatrics and surgery, and opened a new emergency building in April 2022.

VietnamTourism.com lists 24/7 emergency care and staff speaking Vietnamese, English, French and Japanese. Emergency line: 024 3574 1111. Main line: 024 3577 1100.

3. Family Medical Practice — best for a 24-hour clinic and ambulance

Family Medical Practice Hanoi is at 298i Kim Ma, now Ngoc Ha ward, and its website lists it as open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Its emergency and ambulance line is ∗1212 or +84 944 431 919. It's a clinic: use it to be seen quickly, stabilized and referred.

4. Raffles Medical Hanoi — best for scheduled GP care in Tay Ho

Raffles Medical Hanoi, part of Singapore's Raffles Medical Group, is at 51 Xuan Dieu, Tay Ho ward. Its December 2025 clinic list gives hours of 8:00–11:30 and 14:00–17:00 on weekdays, plus 9:00–11:00 on Saturdays, and asks patients to book. The phone listed there is +84 24 3676 2222. Older lists give +84 24 3934 0666.

It suits Tay Ho residents wanting a nearby family doctor.

5. Hong Ngoc General Hospital — best for a local private hospital near Ba Dinh

Hong Ngoc General Hospital is a private hospital at 55 Yen Ninh, Ba Dinh. Phone: 024 3927 5568. The UK government's list (June 2022) records only a few English-speaking staff, and VietnamTourism.com could not confirm 24-hour emergency service. Bring a Vietnamese speaker and check direct billing first.

In an emergency

115 is the public ambulance line, but VietnamTourism.com says operators mostly speak Vietnamese, so keep your address written in Vietnamese. Viet Duc University Hospital, a public hospital at 40 Trang Thi in Hoan Kiem, offers 24/7 emergency care, though an interpreter helps. A November 2025 guide warns that most hospitals ask for payment or a deposit before treatment, and that private hospitals may hold your passport until the bill is settled.

What to check before you decide

  • Direct billing: ask your insurer which Hanoi hospitals it bills directly, for outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Payment: without direct billing, expect to pay first and claim later. Keep itemized receipts.
  • Route: test the drive to your nearest 24-hour emergency department at rush hour.
  • Phone numbers: save 115, ∗1212 and your insurer's assistance line.

FAQ

Which hospital in Hanoi is JCI-accredited?

Vinmec Times City says it was Vietnam's first general hospital to receive JCI accreditation. Check JCI's online directory for current status before relying on any list.

Do I need insurance for international hospitals in Hanoi?

Strongly advised. Private hospitals usually want payment or a deposit up front, and direct billing needs an agreement between your insurer and that hospital.
