Expert take — Cost of Asia editorial team In Indonesia, whoever houses you must report you to immigration through the APOA app, and the host risks up to three months in jail or an IDR 25 million fine for failing to share guest details. That rule, set out by the Directorate General of Immigration under the 2011 Immigration Law as amended in 2024, covers hotels and any other place that works as lodging. A coliving that scans your passport at check-in is doing its job. One that rents you a room "off the books" puts both of you at risk, so treat it as a red flag.
Coliving in Bali means a private room plus shared spaces: a kitchen or café, a pool, and usually a coworking area on site. You pay one bill, skip the lease, and arrive to Wi-Fi, a desk and people to eat with. For a first stay of one to three months, that's often easier than hunting for a villa.
This page is for remote workers and solo movers who want that setup. The main trade-off is price per square meter. Coliving rooms are small and cost more than a long-term rental of the same size. You pay for the flexibility, the community and the workspace. Once you know which area suits you, a yearly villa rental will almost always work out cheaper.
Your second choice is location. Bali's coliving spaces cluster in Canggu (Berawa, Tibubeneng, Pererenan) and Ubud, with a few in Legian, Seminyak and Uluwatu. Roads between those areas are slow, so choose the area first and the space second.

How we chose
- Still operating in 2026, confirmed in at least one guide or booking listing dated 2026.
- Published rates, with the date and source. We list them as the operators or guides state them; we don't estimate.
- Work setup: coworking on site, its hours, and call booths.
- Location relative to the area's traffic bottlenecks.
- Registration: we favor spaces that run a formal check-in.
Main sources: Honeycombers' coliving roundup (October 2026), Finns Beach Club's Ubud coliving guide (September 2026), Coliving.com (January 2026), Outsite's listings and booking-site pages. We could not run on-site speed tests, so the Wi-Fi figures are what operators and guides publish. Checked on 4 November 2026.
1. Outpost (Ubud) — best for 24/7 work in a quiet setting
Who it suits
Remote workers on European or American hours who want calm rather than nightlife. Outpost runs two Ubud sites: Penestanan, in Sayan to the west of town, and Nyuh Kuning, south of the center. Honeycombers (October 2026) lists rates from about IDR 680,000 a night, with 24/7 coworking included, air-conditioned en-suite rooms, a pool, a rooftop, a kitchen and call booths. Outsite, a coliving network, lists the Ubud property as a curated partner that Outpost operates. Outsite shows prices from $41 a night and bills in USD.
Trade-offs
Monthly costs are higher than a local rental. Finns Beach Club (September 2026) puts monthly coliving with coworking at Penestanan at around USD 1,008 and a two-week Nyuh Kuning package from USD 490. Wi-Fi claims vary: Honeycombers mentions 200 Mbps, while Outsite's page lists 50 Mbps. Ubud is 1.5 to 2.5 hours from the airport.
Outpost's Canggu coworking floor closed in April 2024, so the Ubud sites are its remaining Bali workspaces. Some older guides still describe a membership that covers both towns.
Check before you commit
Ask which site your room is in and whether the coworking is in the same building or down the street. Run a speed test in the room as well as the coworking area.
2. SOKKOOL Coliving — best for a Berawa base with a gym
Who it suits
People who want Canggu's beach and café life without a commute. SOKKOOL sits at Jalan Pemelisan Agung No. 7 in Tibubeneng, about 0.5 km from Berawa Beach, according to its Expedia listing. Honeycombers lists 24/7 coworking, a pool, a gym, a rooftop, a garden, a shared kitchen and a café, plus cleaning almost every day.
Trade-offs
Rooms are compact: the booking listing shows 14–15 m² rooms. Honeycombers quotes rates from IDR 880,000 a night. Coliving.com (January 2026) listed $43–56 a night, with 5% off stays of 28 nights or more, 10% off 90 or more and 15% off 180 or more. Berawa is also Canggu's busiest area, with sunset congestion around the beach clubs.
Check before you commit
Get the monthly total in writing, with the long-stay discount applied, and ask whether electricity is billed separately.
3. Tribal — best for social life on a budget
Who it suits
Solo travelers who want an instant social circle. Tribal is a coworking hostel in Pererenan, northwest of central Canggu, about 500 m from the beach (Hostelgeeks, April 2026). Honeycombers lists free coworking for residents, an infinity pool, food and drink on site, a pool table, surf racks and weekly events, at around IDR 7.3 million a month.
Trade-offs
It's a hostel at heart, so expect noise and a younger crowd. Honeycombers doesn't say which room type the monthly figure covers. Café visitors also use the workspace (Freaking Nomads reports a minimum spend of roughly $20 for six hours), so it can be busy by day.
Check before you commit
Ask which room the monthly price buys and whether there's a quiet zone for calls.
4. Cove — best for the lowest monthly rent
Who it suits
Budget-minded stayers who will work from home or a café. Cove runs several coliving properties in Bali, including one in Jimbaran. In Tibubeneng, Honeycombers lists Cove Abasan at about IDR 4.2 million a month and Cove Ayuna at about IDR 7.7 million, both with furnished air-conditioned rooms, private bathrooms, a pool, a shared kitchen and parking. Most Cove locations accept weekly rent.
Trade-offs
There's no coworking space, so community is lighter and you'll need a paid desk elsewhere. Prices also differ between Honeycombers articles: a July 2026 cost-of-living piece put Cove's starting rate at IDR 6–9 million a month. Expect it to vary by property and room.
Check before you commit
Confirm the exact property, room and monthly price, and test the Wi-Fi if you'll work from your room.
What would this move really cost you?
Use your own rent, insurance, transport and visa assumptions. Compare options before committing.
5. Bali Bustle — best for airport access and city services
Who it suits
People who fly often or want shops and services nearby. The Kuta-area flagship is at Jalan Dewi Sri II No. 23 in Legian. Honeycombers lists 24/7 coworking, a rooftop pool, a gym, a café, in-room kitchens, laundry and 24-hour security, from IDR 8.7 million a month.
Trade-offs
Legian is a tourist strip, not a residential village, and it's far from Canggu's and Ubud's remote-work communities. Coliving.com listed a much lower rate ($475 a month) in January 2026, so prices have moved or depend on the room.
Check before you commit
Ask for the current monthly rate for your exact room type and confirm laundry and utilities are included.
6. Uluwatu Hub — best for surfers on the Bukit
Who it suits
Surfers who want a workspace close to the Bukit breaks. Uluwatu Hub is at Jalan Goa Lempeh No. 27A in Pecatu. Honeycombers lists 24/7 coworking, fiber Wi-Fi, a gym, a pool, a café and events, with Classic Rooms from IDR 700,000 a night or a monthly package of IDR 15.75 million. Some villas have private plunge pools and kitchens.
Trade-offs
It's the most expensive monthly package on this list, and the Bukit is spread out, so you'll need a scooter. Canggu is 1.5–2 hours away, per Bali Holiday Secrets.
Check before you commit
Ask what the monthly package includes (room type, cleaning, electricity), and drive the route to your favorite break at rush hour.
Also worth a look
Honeycombers' October 2026 list also covers Biliq in Seminyak (from IDR 420,000 a night, with 20% off for locals and KITAS holders), Tanaga Coliving in Seminyak (from IDR 750,000 a night, with a call booth and meeting room) and Rukita on Sunset Road, Kerobokan (from IDR 5 million a month, room cleaning included). Outsite also lists a Pererenan house with private rooms, kitchenettes, a pool and a coworking space. In Ubud, Finns Beach Club names Clan Living: The Founder and The Onion & Co, both on Jalan Raya Pengosekan.
What to check before you decide
- Registration: the host should take your passport details for APOA at check-in. Bali.live reports that foreigners may only stay in registered accommodation or with their visa sponsor.
- The real monthly total: ask whether electricity, cleaning, laundry and coworking are included. Coliving.com notes that some spaces charge extra for electricity or extra guests.
- Evening internet speed in your room, not just the coworking area. Ookla's August 2026 index put Indonesia's median fixed download at 51.40 Mbps and mobile at 66.34 Mbps (Bisnis.com), so keep a local SIM as backup.
- Nyepi: Bali observes a 24-hour shutdown on the Day of Silence (19 March in 2026, per Bali Home Immo). Ask whether the fixed line stays on and whether staff are on site.
- Cancellation terms: pay monthly at first, then commit longer once you like the place.
- Distance to your daily life: time the trip to the beach, gym or school at 4–7 pm.
FAQ
How much does coliving cost in Bali?
It depends on the area and room. Published rates checked in October–November 2026 run from about IDR 4.2 million a month (Cove Abasan) to IDR 15.75 million (Uluwatu Hub's package), and from IDR 420,000 to 880,000 a night at spaces that price nightly with long-stay discounts.
Is coliving cheaper than renting a villa in Bali?
Usually not over a long stay. Bali Villa Hub (February 2026) lists Canggu studios at about USD 400–900 a month and Ubud cottages from USD 300. Coliving costs more per square meter, but it includes furniture, Wi-Fi, cleaning and often a desk, with no deposit or yearly lease.
Which area is best for coliving in Bali?
Canggu has the most choice and the busiest social life. Ubud's Outpost suits focused work. Legian and Uluwatu suit travelers who want the airport or the surf.
Do I need a special visa to stay in a coliving?
Your visa depends on your stay and work, not your accommodation. Remote work for foreign clients falls under specific rules; see our Bali digital nomad visa guide. Whatever your visa, the host must report your stay to immigration.
Will the Wi-Fi be good enough for video calls?
Usually, but test it yourself. Operators' claims vary from 50 to 200 Mbps for the same space, and rainy-season power cuts happen. Ask about a backup line or generator.
