Expert take — Cost of Asia editorial team According to the Australian Consulate-General in Bali, hospitals there generally won't accept an insurer's guarantee of payment unless the insurer has a representative office in Bali. In practice, you may have to pay the full bill at discharge and claim it back. Before you choose a policy, ask the insurer how it guarantees payment at Bali hospitals, and keep a credit card with a high limit for emergencies.

The private hospitals most expats use are in the south of the island: Kuta, Denpasar, Nusa Dua and Sanur. If you live in Canggu, Ubud or Uluwatu, your nearest option is often a 24-hour clinic, and for anything serious you will be driving south. Difficult and critical cases are normally transferred to the main public hospital in Denpasar.

This page is for long-stay expats, digital nomads and families who want to know where to go before they need it. We don't rank medical outcomes. Each pick is labeled by the profile it suits best.

1. Siloam Hospitals Bali — best for accredited full-service care

Siloam Hospitals Bali is on Sunset Road, Kuta. Republika reported that it received its third JCI accreditation on 28 March 2026 and is currently the only JCI-accredited hospital in Bali. Rumah123 describes 24/7 emergency services, a NICU, CT scanning and a mobile medical evacuation service.

It suits expats in Seminyak, Kerobokan and Canggu who want the closest accredited hospital. Main line: +62 361 779900.

2. BIMC Hospital — best for foreigner-focused care

BIMC started as a small clinic in 1998 and now has sites in Kuta (Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai), Nusa Dua (inside the ITDC resort complex) and Ubud. Its Nusa Dua hospital, rebranded BIMC Siloam Nusa Dua in 2017, gained accreditation from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) in 2014. Rumah123 reports 24-hour emergency care at Kuta and Nusa Dua, and diagnostics, radiology and lab services in Ubud.

It suits visitors and residents in Kuta, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Sanur. Kuta: +62 361 761263.

3. Bali International Hospital — best for advanced specialist care

Bali International Hospital sits inside the Sanur Special Economic Zone. According to Hey Bali, it works with Japan's Sapporo Cardiovascular Center on cardiology and Australia's Icon Cancer Centre on oncology. It has PET-CT, a 3 Tesla MRI and a 24/7 emergency department. Its emergency hotline is 150 919.

It is one of the island's newest hospitals, and its international accreditation status is not stated in the sources we checked. Ask your insurer whether it is in their network.

4. Kasih Ibu Hospital — best for multiple locations

Kasih Ibu runs hospitals on Jl. Teuku Umar in Denpasar, in Kedonganan (near Jimbaran), in Saba (Gianyar) and in Tabanan, with one shared line: +62 361 3003030. Rumah123 says the group has operated for more than 30 years and publishes health screening packages with fixed prices.

It suits residents outside the Kuta–Nusa Dua corridor and those looking for lower costs.

5. Prof. Ngoerah Hospital (Sanglah) — best for critical cases

Prof. Ngoerah Hospital, still widely known as Sanglah, is the main public provincial hospital on Jl. Diponegoro, Denpasar. The Australian Consulate-General says it has an International Wing and a Burns Unit, and that difficult or critical cases are normally transferred there.

Expect a public-hospital experience. Use it for serious trauma or when a private hospital refers you.

What to check before you decide

  • Guarantee of payment: ask your insurer whether Bali hospitals accept its guarantees, or whether you must pay and claim.
  • Card limit: private hospitals accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Make sure your limit can cover a hospital stay.
  • Medical evacuation: check your policy covers evacuation off the island, since air ambulances are very expensive.
  • Nearest 24-hour clinic: if you live in Canggu, Ubud or Uluwatu, save the number of a 24/7 clinic near you.
  • Accreditation: check the specific hospital in JCI's online directory.

FAQ

Which is the best hospital in Bali for foreigners?

For accredited full-service care, Siloam Hospitals Bali in Kuta is the only JCI-accredited hospital on the island (May 2026). BIMC in Kuta and Nusa Dua has the longest track record with foreign patients.

Is there a 24-hour clinic in Canggu?

Yes. The German Embassy lists Siloam Medika Canggu and Bali Med Canggu Clinic as 24/7 clinics on Jl. Raya Canggu. They are clinics, not hospitals.

Will my insurance pay the hospital directly?

Not always. Bali hospitals generally accept guarantees only from insurers with a local representative office. Otherwise you pay at discharge and keep itemized receipts to claim reimbursement.
