Expert take — Cost of Asia editorial team Five of the nine coworking spaces in Phuket 101's October 2026 list are in Rawai and Chalong, while the same publisher says fiber is fast across the whole island. Your internet will work almost anywhere, so you're really choosing who you work beside and how far you drive. For a desk and a community, start in the south; if you fly often, base yourself on the west coast and accept fewer shared desks.

This guide is for remote workers paid from abroad who plan a few months or more in Phuket. It compares five areas on coworking, rent, airport time and the low season.

The main trade-off is south versus west. The south has most of the coworking spaces and a settled long-stay crowd, but it's the furthest from the airport. The west coast is closer to the airport and the beaches, but costs more and quiets down in the low season.

At a glance

Best for Pick Why
Coworking community Rawai & Nai Harn Two coworking spaces, large long-stay crowd
Budget and gym routine Chalong Cheaper condos, coworking open daily until 11 p.m.
Living without a vehicle Phuket Town Cheapest condos, cafés, hospitals close by
Frequent flyers with a bigger budget Bang Tao / Cherngtalay 25–30 minutes to the airport
Quiet focus by the beach Kamala Calm village, about 25 minutes to the airport

How we chose

  • Coworking: Phuket 101's coworking guide (updated 24 October 2026), cross-checked with Thai Holiday Guide (10 October 2026).
  • Rent and drive times: Phuket 101's area guide (October 2026) and Superagent's 2026 rent article; listing-based estimates, not official data.
  • Visa fit: DTV rules from the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest and The Thaiger.

1. Rawai & Nai Harn — best for a coworking community

Phuket 101 places Let's Work and Grind Time's Rawai Beach space here. Let's Work keeps long weekday hours (members only on Mondays), and Grind Time is staffed 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 24-hour access for members. Nai Harn is swimmable most of the year.

Phuket 101 lists one-bedroom condos at 15,000–22,000 baht a month. The catch is the 40–45-minute airport run, the longest on the island, and floods around the Chalong Circle and Sai Yuan side in the 2024 and 2025 monsoons.

2. Chalong — best for a budget and a gym routine

Chalong has PLACE Coworking, open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily according to Phuket 101, and Grind Time's Chalong Bay branch. Condos run 12,000–20,000 baht, the Muay Thai and gym crowd lives here, and the airport is about 35 minutes away.

There's no beach, Phuket 101 says nobody walks anywhere, and the Chalong Circle jams at school time and at dusk.

3. Phuket Town — best for living without a vehicle

Phuket 101 calls Phuket Town the only place to live without a vehicle and counts remote workers among its residents, with cafés, fiber and condos at 8,000–15,000 baht. Superagent gives the same range for basic units around Rassada and Central Phuket. BAYACO, next to Central Phuket, rents meeting rooms and offices on weekdays.

The nearest good beach is 20–30 minutes away, and the Old Town floods in heavy rain.

BUILD YOUR PLAN

What would this move really cost you?

Use your own rent, insurance, transport and visa assumptions. Compare options before committing.

4. Bang Tao / Cherngtalay — best for frequent flyers with a bigger budget

Phuket 101 says remote workers come here for coworking and gyms, with the airport 25–30 minutes away. Thai Holiday Guide lists a HOMA coworking space in Cherngtalay.

Phuket 101 lists condos and houses at 20,000–35,000 baht, and restaurants charge tourist prices. The Cherngtalay road jams morning and evening from December to February, and Superagent warns that short-term west-coast rates can roughly double in the November–February peak.

5. Kamala — best for quiet focus by the beach

Phuket 101 says Kamala draws remote workers on repeat visa cycles. The beach is calm, the airport about 25 minutes away, and condos run 15,000–25,000 baht.

There's no big supermarket, hillside water pressure drops from January to April, and many developments sit half-empty in low season.

Visas and tax

Since 15 September 2026, the visa-free stay for 60 countries and territories has been 30 days, down from 60, according to TTG Asia.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is valid for five years, with stays of up to 180 days per entry. The Thai embassy in Budapest asks for at least 500,000 baht in funds and says holders can't work for Thai companies or freelance for Thai clients. The Thaiger reports a one-time 180-day extension per entry for 1,900 baht.

The Thaiger notes that 180 days or more in Thailand in a calendar year makes you tax resident. Ask a qualified adviser how that affects income you bring in.

What to check before you decide

  • Run a speed test in the unit at your working hours.
  • Confirm coworking hours: Denz in Kathu and BAYACO close at weekends.
  • Get the electricity rate in writing: Superagent says some landlords charge 7–9 baht per unit, against about 4 baht at the government rate.
  • Sign before November, when peak pricing starts.
  • Budget transport: Superagent puts scooter rental at 3,000–5,000 baht a month.
